How does a custom-made process work?

Many people know exactly how they want their garden to look. But as soon as it comes to furniture, doubt creeps in. Standard dimensions don't fit, colours clash, and compromises pile up. At Dutch Rivièra, it works differently. Every lounge piece starts with a conversation and ends with a product that fits perfectly in the space, in style, and for the use you have in mind.

It starts with a good conversation

A custom-made process doesn’t start with a catalogue, but with questions. What space do you have available? Is it a garden, veranda, roof terrace or wellness room? How many people need to sit or lie comfortably on it? And what atmosphere are you going for? These questions may seem simple, but they form the basis of everything that follows when putting together exclusive made-to-measure lounge beds.

At Dutch Rivièra, we map out your situation before a single choice is made. That way, we avoid you having to make adjustments afterwards that should have been addressed from the start.

From our workshop in Valkenswaard, we guide you step by step. That’s the advantage of working directly with a manufacturer: you speak with the people who actually make the product.

Determining made-to-measure dimensions

After the intake conversation, we get to work on the dimensions. This is one of the most decisive steps in the process. A lounge piece that’s ten centimetres too wide throws off the whole layout. One that’s too small loses its presence.

We measure based on your available space and your wishes. We take walkways, terrace edges and the proportion between furniture and surroundings into account. The result is a layout that works spatially and remains comfortable to use.

Take a look at the size overview of our lounge beds as a starting point for your own dimensions. For customers with a specific corner or protruding section of terrace, we also offer asymmetrical and L-shaped configurations. Standard doesn’t exist in our vocabulary.

Material advice tailored to your situation

A custom-made process goes beyond dimensions. Choosing the right material is just as important, especially for outdoor furniture exposed to changing weather conditions all year round.

Dutch Rivièra works exclusively with materials intended for long-term outdoor use. For upholstery, we choose from solution-dyed fabrics, Quick Dry Foam and open-structure Dacron. Each material has its own properties and suits a different situation.

Solution-dyed fabrics retain their colour even under intense sun exposure, because the pigment is worked into the fibre itself rather than applied to the surface. Combined with a fast-drying filling, the cushions stay fresh and dry again quickly, even after a rain shower.

For the frame we use powder-coated aluminium or stainless steel. Both materials withstand moisture, salt and temperature fluctuations. We advise you on which frame choice best suits your environment and desired maintenance level.

From design to production in our own workshop

Once dimensions, materials and configuration are set, production begins. Everything is handmade in our workshop in Valkenswaard. That may sound remarkable, but it’s the core of what we do.

Because we produce everything ourselves, we have full control over quality at every stage of the process — from the construction of the frame to the final seam in the upholstery. We deliver directly to you, without middlemen, and you see that reflected in the price-quality ratio.

Curious what’s possible for your garden? Take a look at our process step by step and let yourself be inspired by the possibilities. Every project is different, but the approach is always aimed at the same result: a piece of furniture that meets your expectations for years to come.

Lifespan and maintenance

A made-to-measure piece is an investment. It’s worth understanding how long you can enjoy that investment and what it takes.

The materials Dutch Rivièra uses are selected for longevity. Solution-dyed fabrics last considerably longer than regular outdoor fabrics, because the colour doesn’t fade and the material doesn’t rot in persistently damp weather. Quick Dry Foam dries quickly after rain, so moisture has no chance to build up in the cushion’s core.

With proper care, our products still look as good after five or ten seasons as they did on day one. A piece of furniture from Dutch Rivièra is therefore an investment that pays off in years of carefree use.

Mould growth is a common problem with lower-quality outdoor cushions. Thanks to the open cell structure of Dacron and the fast-drying properties of Quick Dry Foam, mould barely gets a chance with our products, meaning less maintenance for you.

Delivery and placement

The custom-made process concludes with delivery and, if desired, on-site placement. We plan this in consultation with you, so it fits your schedule and the layout of your outdoor space.

For larger projects, such as hotel, resort or wellness centre fit-outs, we handle the full placement. We think along with you about the layout and make sure every piece stands exactly where it should. For private customers, we also offer an on-site consultation, so you can be sure of the end result.

The process is short, direct and personal. You always speak with someone who knows the production and understands your project.
